COVID-19: Two new cases push national total to 260

Two flower growers in Ha Loi village, Me Linh commune, Hanoi were confirmed to have contracted the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), bringing the current number of infections in Vietnam to 260, the Ministry of Health reported on April 12 afternoon.

The 259th female patient, 41, is a Vietnamese national who is the wife of patient 254 living in the outbreak area in Ha Loi village, Me Linh commune.

April 8 was the last time she came into close contact with her husband (case 254) before he was on dialysis at the Hanoi Kidney Hospital.

After her husband received a positive result for SARS-CoV-2 on April 9, she was first sampled by Me Linh Health Center and transferred for isolation in Thach That on April 10.

The patient tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 by the Hanoi Centre for Disease Control on April 11.

The 260th female Vietnamese patient, 35, had close contact with patient 243 when delivering flowers.

Her sample was taken for testing by the Hanoi Centre for Disease Control on April 10 and the result was confirmed positive on SARS-CoV-2 one day later. She is currently being isolated and receiving treatment at the National Hospital of Tropical Diseases No 2 in Dong Anh district of Hanoi.

So far, Vietnam has recorded a total of 260 cases of COVID-19, including 144 patients of full recovery, and 114 undergoing intensive treatment at medical facilities throughout the country.

The same day, the Ministry of Health issued its 13th emergency notice, asking anyone who has visited Me Linh flower market in Ha Loi village, Me Linh commune, Hanoi since March 20, to immediately contact the nearest health authority or send a message to the number 8889 for medical advice.

Six positive confirmed cases, including  243rd, 250th, 253rd, 254th, 257th and 258th patients, are said to have linked with the outbreak of COVID-19 in Ha Loi village.

On April 10, the ministry dispatch a special task force to serve epidemic prevention and control in the village where as many as 2,711 households with 11,077 residents has been placed in isolation. The quarantine period run between April 8 and May 5.
