Hue student wins UPU International Writing Contest in Vietnam

PSNews - Phan Hoang Phuong Nhi, a student of class 7/2 of the Duy Tan Secondary School has been named the winner of the 49th UPU International Letter-Writing Contest.

Chairman of the Thua Thien Hue Provincial People’s Committee Phan Ngoc Tho attended the awarding ceremony.

The 49th UPU International Letter-Writing Contest held by the Universal Postal Union (UPU) with the theme: “Write a message to an adult about the world we live in”. In Vietnam, the competition was run from December 2019 to April 2020 and received over 600.000 writings of students country-wide.

Phan Hoang Phuong Nhi, the owner of the first prize letter sent her message about environmental protection, limiting plastic waste, the change from mindset to action of a simple woman, having a simple job.

The letter is a story of Phuong Nhi sharing her dream of a world with no plastic bags, Styrofoam boxes through a familiar and unique writing style.

As reported, after 26 years (1994-2020), Thua Thien Hue has regained its position through the UPU Letter-Writing that Phuong Nhi won the highest prize this time.

In addition to the first prize of student Phuong Nhi, Thua Thien Hue province won two consolidation prizes, four prizes for promising writers, one prize for visually impaired students and one group prize (awarded to Duy Tan Secondary School, Hue city).

Addressing the commendation ceremony, chairman Phan Ngoc Tho gave the congratulation to students, as well as the school on their achievement; at the same time he emphasized that Thua Thien Hue has responded this policy through the movements “Green Sunday” and “Say No to Plastic Bags and Disposal Plastic Products”. These policies have changed and raised people’s awareness and responsibility for environmental protection.

Chairman Phan Ngoc Tho also congratulated and thanked teachers for their caring and guidance that the students can get proud achievements. He also desired that in the coming time, Thua Thien Hue students will keep on gaining more and more achievements in national and international contests, bringing glory to our homeland.
