The money should be spent on upgrading and repairing essential infrastructure such as irrigation works, roads in rural areas and dikes.

Another 50 billion VND (2.25 million USD) from the central budget will also be advanced to Nam Dinh (20 billion VND), Thai Binh (20 billion VND), and Hung Yen (10 billion VND) to purchase seedlings and livestock for farmers.

Typhoon Mirinae, the first hit Vietnam this year, swept through the northern region in the midnight of July 27, causing huge human and property damages with Ha Nam, Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh and Thai Binh provinces being the hardest hit.

Meanwhile, Lao Cai and Yen Bai were battered by flash floods and landslides caused by heavy rains in the wake of typhoon Nida in early August.

The two storms flooded nearly 256,000ha of agricultural land in the affected localties, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
