Three prosecuted after karaoke bar fire kills 13

PSNews - The Hanoi Police on Nov. 12 decided to prosecute three persons relating to the recent deathly fire in the karaoke bar in Tran Thai Tong Street, claiming 13 lives on November 1.

The three prosecuted include the owner of the bar, Nguyen Dieu Linh, resident of Ha Dong district, Hanoi city; Hoang Van Tuan, 23, welder, resident of Nghia Dan District, Nghe An Province and Le Thi Thi or Le Thi Thanh, 54, Tuan’s employer, resident of Cau Giay District, Hanoi city.

The Criminal Police Office under the Hanoi Police (PC45) informed that the charge has been filed against the three person for their different-level violations of the fire safety rules.

The P45 has arrested Tuan and Thi for further investigation while keeping Linh under a house arrest as she is now looking after her child aged less than 36 months.

According to the investigation team, Nguyen Dieu Linh as the owner of the Karaoke Bar, charged with her irresponsibility while supervising the construction work, allowing the installation of a large billboard blocking the entire facade of the building, and operating the bar without a fire safety license.

Meanwhile Tuan had no qualifications  for arc welding and took no fire prevention measures during his work. As a result, he used welding machines to blow fire directly into the door hinge causing the deathly fire.

Le Thi Thi was accused of hiring an unskilled worker and took no fire prevention measures despite the high risk.

As reported by the Public Security Newspaper, the fire, which occurred at 1.30pm on November 1 in the Karaoke Bar at 68 Tran Thai Tong street, Cau Giay district, Hanoi, killed 13 and destroyed several motorbikes and electronic bikes and badly damaged three nearby buildings.
