He said that much has been discussed concerning the fourth industrial revolution and now action is needed to bring IT applications into smart city development, agriculture, tourism, enterprises and government agencies.
The Deputy PM said that in the fourth industrial revolution, Vietnam must develop a strong IT infrastructure system, which requires more incentive policies from the regulatory agencies, in addition to an increased sharing of open data, initially between the government bodies, followed by enterprises and finally everyone.

He emphasised that only when data is connected and shared could IT firms and start-up businesses have room to create new products that will benefit the public.
Deputy Dam told the audience that Vietnam has made significant progress in the global innovation and e-government rankings but is still facing numerous risks as Vietnam is among the top countries plagued by spamming, malware and spyware.
He warned that Vietnam would pay a price for pushing for greater IT application without giving adequate attention to network security and human resources.
He urged IT firms to work closely with higher education institutions to train students in what is necessary for their future jobs so that the problems of Vietnam’s lack of highly-skilled IT workers could be resolved.
According to a report by the summit’s organisers, more than 35% of the 275 surveyed agencies and institutions said that they are prepared for the 4th industrial revolution, while nearly 60% stated that have learned about the trend but do not know how to prepare.
As an annual event, Vietnam ICT Summit 2017 attracted the participation of over 650 delegates who are in leadership positions at central government agencies, provincial authorities, foreign diplomats and leading IT firms in Vietnam and from abroad.
During the summit, participants focused their discussions on the trends, strategies and solutions for Vietnam to approach the fourth industrial revolution.
