500 outstanding students receive Vallet scholarships

PSNews - The Rencontres du Vietnam Science and Education Organization (ROC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) on August 23 held the 2018 Vallet Scholarship Award ceremony.

At the ceremony, Minister of Education and Training Phung Xuan Nha, Professor Odon Vallet, Professor Tran Thanh Van and Professor Le Kim Ngoc presented Vallet scholarships to 500 outstanding students from 58 high schools in the north and 6 SOS villages.

The Vallet Scholarship has greatly encouraged the learning spirit of Vietnamese students and young researchers. This is also the largest non-governmental scholarship fund in Vietnam for nearly 2 decades.

The Vallet, which was established in 2001 by Professor Odon Vallet at France's Sorbonne University, has associated with the ROC (which was established by Professor Tran Thanh Van and his wife, Professor Le Kim Ngoc) to present scholarships to outstanding students in Vietnam.

Over the last 17 years, the Vallet has granted nearly 32,250 scholarships to excellent students across Vietnam totally valued at nearly 350 billion VND. 300 of these students later won international medals, and 200 others received admissions from famous universities in France.

In 2018, the program has a plan to grant 2,200 Vallet scholarships worth VND25 billion to outstanding students across the country and those from SOS villages.

On this occasion, Minister of Education and Training Phung Xuan Nha also awarded the medal "For the cause of education" to Professor Tran Thanh Van and Professor Le Kim Ngoc.
