Following their rescue, the travelers penned a heartfelt letter expressing gratitude for Vietnam's safety and the professionalism of its local police force.
On October 14, police in Ba Na commune (Da Nang) confirmed that search and rescue teams located two foreign nationals who had lost their way in the Hang Gio stream area (Hoa Trung village, Ba Na commune). The tourists were identified as Austin Vasquez (31, US national) and Matty Geppert (36, German national).
According to initial reports, on October 13, the two tourists went into that area in Ba Na on their own to camp, but subsequently lost their way.
The local police and rescue teams launched a search operation immediately upon receiving the report. By noon on October 14, rescue personnel located the pair at the Hang Gio stream area. Though suffering from minor scratches, their health was not seriously affected.
Deeply moved by the relentless efforts and professionalism of the rescue forces, the two tourists penned a thank-you letter. In the letter, Austin Vasquez expressed that Vietnam has always been a safe country with hospitable and compassionate people. He also highlighted the unexpected professionalism of the Vietnamese police force, noting that they consistently stand at the forefront of maintaining security and order.
Vasquez stated that without the officers of the Ba Na commune police, he would not have been able to stand there to write those words, while expressing sincere thanks to everyone involved in the rescue and praising Vietnam for always being a safe destination.
