Free learning 6 languages in Hanoi

Residents in Hanoi tried out free learning about greetings and communication in 6 languages including English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Polish.

This was one of the plentiful activities on “The Sixth European Language Day”, took place at Geothe Institue in Hanoi on October 29.

The languague festival brought a special occasion to teachers, lectures and the general public to experience a multi-lingual environment and enjoy colourful day full of input and exchange.

This year, it was all about Multilingualism in Vietnamese Schools, with presence of European Union National Institutes for Culture members that including the British Council, Goethe Institute the Embassy of Poland, the Embassy of Spain/Aula Cervantes, the French Embassy/ Institute Francais - L‘Espace, the Embassy of Italy and the Wallonia-Brussels Delegation.

The morning part created a fantastic opportunity for up to 120 experts on teaching foreign languages, lecturers and teachers to listen to key notes delivered by representatives of Ministry of Education and Training; Prof. Dr Hans-Jürgen Krumm, a senior expert on multilingualism at Vienna University, Pierre-Yves Turellier from the French Embassy; Danny Whitehead from the British Council and Céline Mariage from Wallonia-Brussels Delegation.

The afternoon session from 2 pm onwards was fully open to the public – students, parents and their children - who are interested in languages and culture. At the festival, the participating European countries introduced their language and nations.

Taster classes were offered to enable participants to learn some words and communicate in English, French, German, Italian, Polish and Spanish.

The European Language Day is an initiative of European Council and organized annually by European Union National Institutes for Culture – a network of European culture institues.
