On the morning of October 16 in Ha Noi, General Luong Tam Quang, Politburo Member and Minister of Public Security, received RoK Ambassador to Viet Nam Lee Mi Yon, who paid a courtesy visit at the start of her term.
Welcoming Ambassador Lee Mi Yon to the Ministry of Public Security, Minister Luong Tam Quang wished her a successful tenure, contributing to deepening the Vietnam–RoK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in general, and cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security of Viet Nam and RoK law enforcement agencies in particular.
Minister Luong Tam Quang noted that Vietnam–RoK relations are currently at their best since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1992, and upgraded it to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in December 2022. Recent high-level visits and exchanges have continued to strengthen political trust and provided a new momentum for the two sides to deepen their relationship, especially in strategic areas such as high technology, innovation, and economic security.
Within the overall bilateral relationship, security and police cooperation is a key pillar. The two sides regularly maintain mechanisms such as Deputy Minister-level Security Dialogues, Deputy Minister-level Police Cooperation Conferences, information exchanges through the Viet Nam–RoK Liaison Office, and delegation exchanges between units and localities.
Through these mechanisms, the relationship between the Ministry of Public Security of Viet Nam and relevant RoK agencies has been further consolidated. The two sides actively coordinated to convey important messages between senior leaders of the two countries; exchange views on global and regional security situations; and strengthen bilateral and multilateral cooperation in crime prevention, training, professional exchanges, aid, and citizen protection.
Regarding future cooperation, Minister Luong Tam Quang emphasized the need to effectively implement existing mechanisms. In the immediate term, the two sides will focus on preparing for the 8th Police Cooperation Conference and the 4th Cultural and Sports Exchange Program between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Korean National Police Agency, scheduled for December 2026.
Another key focus is to enhance the quality of information exchange and maintain coordination in combating high-tech crime, drug-related crime, and transnational crime. The Minister noted that in May 2026, the Ministry of Public Security of Viet Nam and the Korean National Police Agency approved a Memorandum of Understanding to upgrade the Liaison Office.
Expressing confidence that Ambassador Lee Mi Yon will fulfill her role as a bridge in her new position, Minister Luong Tam Quang hoped the Ambassador would further promote cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security of Viet Nam and relevant RoK agencies, achieving concrete results that contribute to national security, social order, and the development of each country.
The Minister affirmed that the Ministry of Public Security of Viet Nam will closely coordinate with the RoK Embassy to ensure the security and safety of the embassy’s premises and staff; and is ready to cooperate, coordinate, and facilitate favorable conditions for RoK businesses and citizens living and working in Viet Nam.
Ambassador Lee Mi Yon expressed her sincere gratitude to Minister Luong Tam Quang for his warm welcome and good wishes extended to her at the start of her tenure as RoK ambassador to Viet Nam. She expressed her pleasure at being assigned to Viet Nam at a time when the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries continues to develop. The Ambassador highly appreciated the role of security and police cooperation in bilateral relations, as well as the attention and support of the Ministry of Public Security of Viet Nam for the embassy, businesses and citizens of RoK in the country.
Ambassador Lee Mi Yon expressed her hope for continued cooperation from the Ministry of Public Security of Viet Nam during her tenure; affirming her commitment to serving as a bridge, promoting exchanges between the two countries’ functional agencies, supporting the implementation of cooperation mechanisms, and strengthening coordination in crime prevention and control, thereby contributing to making Viet Nam–RoK relations increasingly substantive, effective, and profound.
