Hanoi Writers' Association honors Literature Award 2017’s winners

PSNews - The Hanoi Writers' Association on December 10 held a conference to review its work in 2017,draw up a plan for 2018, present the Literature Awards 2017 and admit new members. 

Writer Nguyen Thi Thu Hue, Chairwoman of the Hanoi Writers' Association said, in 2017, the association successfully organized its 12th Congress in which the association adopted its Charter with more specific and innovative contents, passed the directions, objectives and missions for the 2015-2020 term, and elected a new executive committee.

Regarding its major missions in 2018, the association will prepare for the Collection of Hanoi Literature Works in the Doi Moi period; upgrade the association's website, and start the construction of its professional training center.

The association will also work with the Hanoi city authority on the social policies for writers while promoting activities of the Literary Support Fund and holding social activities with the aim of raising fund for the association.

On this occasion, the Council for Theory and Criticism of Literature and Art presented the Literature Award 2017 to the Collection of Reviews and Literature Dialogues by poet and literary critic Pham Khai - Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Public Security Newspaper.

The Literature Award for the prose genre went to the novel "6 days" by writer To Hai Van.

On the translation category, the Council decided to honor the translation version of "The doll", a classic novel by Polish writer Boleslaw Prus.

In addition to the three awarded works, the Executive Committee of the Hanoi Writers' Association also awarded the title “Excellent debut novel” for "Memoirs of soldiers" by author Vo Cong Chien.

Within the framework of the conference, the Hanoi Writers' Association admitted 33 new members.

Of the newly admitted members, three belong to the Public Security Forces, namely Lieutenant General (retired), writer Huu Uoc, former Director of the General Department of Politics, former Editor-in-Chief of the Public Security Newspaper and the Public Security Television, Chairman of the Public Security Writers' Association; Senior Colonel (retired), writer Nguyen Nhu Phong, former Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Public Security Newspaper; and Lieutenant Colonel, writer Dao Trung Hieu, working at the Secretariat of the Public Security Newspaper.
