Minister Luong Tam Quang receives US Permanent Deputy Secretary of State

On behalf of the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security, Minister Luong Tam Quang welcomed the US Deputy Secretary of State to Vietnam for his attendance at the ASEAN Future Forum (AFF) 2026 in Hanoi. He affirmed that the meeting served as an excellent opportunity for both sides to review recent cooperation outcomes and propose highly feasible and productive solutions to further promote bilateral relations.

Minister Luong Tam Quang stated that the relationship between the two nations has developed remarkably after 30 years of the normalization of diplomatic relations and nearly 3 years of the establishment of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The two countries have become a typical model in international relations for their efforts to overcome the past and head for a future of friendly cooperation based on shared interests, mutual trust and mutual respect.

Minister Luong Tam Quang emphasized that in the current context, where opportunities and challenges are intertwined, both sides need to make more effort to jointly cultivate strategic trust. This is essential to substantively and effectively implement the core values of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.

He also affirmed that the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security, along with other Vietnamese agencies, is always ready to cooperate, exchange information and work with relevant US agencies to map out specific directions for bilateral cooperation.

On this occasion, Minister Luong Tam Quang proposed that the US Department of State expand the areas of cooperation that Vietnam is interested in. He suggested the US side further support the Ministry of Public Security in improving capacity and professional expertise of Vietnamese public security officers, as well as provide the Ministry of Public Security with more funding for facilities and equipment for the fight against transnational crimes.

On behalf of the US Department of State delegation, Deputy Secretary Christopher Landau respectfully thanked Minister Luong Tam Quang for taking the time to receive the delegation. He expressed his agreement with Minister Luong Tam Quang's assessments of the results of the cooperation between the two countries in recent times.

The US Deputy Secretary of State affirmed that the US is always willing to cooperate with the Ministry of Public Security and relevant Vietnamese authorities to effectively address cooperation issues of mutual concern, thereby bringing practical benefits to the governments, citizens, and businesses of both countries.
