Phu Yen helds ceremony to mark 50 years of 1968 General Offensive

PSNews - The Phu Yen Provincial People's Committee on March 4th held a ceremony to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the General Offensive and Uprising in the spring of 1968 and received a certificate recognizing the place to start the General Offensive and Uprising in the spring of 1968 in Phu Yen as a national historical relics.

At the ceremony, Mr. Hoang Van Tra, Chairman of Phu Yen Provincial People's Committee reviewed the historical heroic battles of the Phu Yen armed forces and people during the 1968 Lunar New Year Festival (Tet) General Offensive and Uprising in Phu Yen province from January 30 to March 6, 1968 with the coordination of the Ngo Quyen Regiment and the 14th Special Force Battalion of the Southern Division.

After the offensive, our forces defeated thousands of enemy troops, seized and destroyed many enemy facilities and weapons, together with other localities defeated the "Joint Warfare" strategy of the American invaders, which fundamentally changed the face of the war and marked a new turning point of the Vietnamese revolution, leading to the Great Victory of the Spring of 1975 and ending the war in Vietnam.

During the General Offensive and Uprising, many soldiers and officers of the Phu Yen provincial armed forces bravely fought and sacrificed their lives for the independence and liberation of the nation, such as martyrs Le Trung Kien, Nguyen The Bao and Nguyen Anh Hao.

With such a great meaning and historic value, on September 6th 2017, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism decided to recognize the place of the General Offensive and Uprising in the spring of 1968 in Phu Yen as a national historical site.

On this occasion, the Phu Yen Provincial People's Committee also inaugurated the Complex of Park and Monument in commemoration of the 1968 Tet General Offensive and Uprising in Phu Yen. The construction is built on an area of 7,100 square meters with a total investment of more than 14.4 billion VND, consisting main items such as the Monument, Memorial House for Heroic Martyrs and Ceremonial Palace.
