Vietnam ranks 3rd at Intel ISEF 2017

PSnews - The Vietnamese delegation ranked 3rd in the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) 2017 with 5/8 projects run by 15 high school students won prizes.

The Ministry of Education and Training on May 24 hosted a welcoming ceremony for the students in Hanoi.

According to Le Trong Hung, Director of Department of Environmental Science and Technology, Ministry of Education and Training, Head of Vietnam delegation, during the Intel ISEF 2017, Vietnam has 5/8 projects run by 15 high school students won prizes.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Nghia then affirmed that these achievements show the wisdom of Vietnamese youth in the international arena, bringing glory to the family, the school, the homeland, the country.

The Intel International Science and Engineering Fair 2017 is the world’s largest international pre-college science competition. 

In the category of Robotics and Intelligent Machines, Vietnamese students won a 3rd and a 4th prizes. Among them, Chu Hoang Minh Duc and Pham Thien Tan from Le Hong Phong High School (Ho Chi Minh City) won the 4th prize with the project "A sign language interpreter glove that can be connected to smartphones of people with hearing impairment"; Pham Quang Huy, student from Quang Tri High School, won the 3rd prize with his project "Robotic arm for the disabled".

In the category of Chemistry, the Vietnamese delegation had two 4th prizes for projects created by Tran Khue and Vu Nam Anh, students from Hanoi University of Science, and Bui Do Minh Quan and Do Mai of Tran Phu High School (Hai Phong).

In the System Software category, Tran Thi Anh Thu of Bao Loc Selective School (Lam Dong) pocketed a 4th prize with her project "Android application integrated augmented reality and mixed reality to assist chemistry learners" project.

Millions of students across the global compete each year in local and school-sponsored science fairs; the winners of these events go on to participate in SSP-affiliated regional and state fairs from which the best win the opportunity to attend Intel ISEF.
