Minister Luong Tam Quang receives Cambodian Secretary of State of the Ministry of Interior

Sante Bandit Chan Ean, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Interior of the Kingdom of Cambodia, alongside a high-level delegation from the Cambodian Ministry of Interior on a working visit to Viet Nam, on the afternoon of August 4, 2026, in Ha Noi.

Overview of the meeting.

At the meeting, Minister Luong Tam Quang warmly welcomed H.E. Sante Bandit Chan Ean and the delegation, expressing satisfaction that senior leaders of the two Ministries regularly meet to address mutual concerns, exchange practical experience, and support each other across numerous areas.

Assessing bilateral relations, Minister Luong Tam Quang affirmed that Viet Nam–Cambodia relations have continuously consolidated and developed while political cooperation continues to play a guiding role, and the Party-to-Party channel is highly valued, helping direct overall bilateral ties.

Regarding cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security of Viet Nam and the Cambodian Ministry of Interior, Minister Luong Tam Quang emphasized that, based on high-level agreements and the 2026 Cooperation Plan, functional forces of the two sides had coordinated closely to ensure security and safety for major political events and high-level delegation visits in each country.

The two sides also established a Joint Working Group to step up cooperation against transnational crime. The Ministry of Public Security of Viet Nam has also dispatched a standing task force to Cambodia to coordinate with local competent authorities, dismantling numerous major syndicates involved in online fraud and drug trafficking.

Minister Luong Tam Quang spoke highly of maintaining the annual Ministerial Conference of Public Security and Interior of Cambodia, Laos and Viet Nam. He noted this is a vital mechanism for strengthening trilateral coordination in safeguarding national security and maintaining social order and safety, contributing to a stable environment for socio-economic development.

Minister Luong Tam Quang proposed that the two sides continue enhancing language training in Vietnamese and Khmer for law enforcement forces, especially local police in border areas, thereby improving information exchange and facilitating timely resolution of security and order issues at the grassroots level.

H.E. Sante Bandit Chan Ean sincerely thanked Minister Luong Tam Quang for the reception and expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Public Security of Viet Nam for sharing valuable practical experience in organizational restructuring, state governance and security maintenance.

The Cambodian Secretary of State highly valued the traditional, close cooperation between the two Ministries, affirming that the insights gained during this visit provide a practical reference for the Cambodian Ministry of Interior as it advises the Government on streamlining its apparatus to suit national circumstances.

H.E. Sante Bandit Chan Ean expressed his desire for both Ministries to maintain delegation exchanges, share operational experience, and strengthen joint efforts against transnational crime, particularly online scams and drug offenses, thereby ensuring security and public order while deepening the friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
