Powerful shift for People's Public Security Online Newspaper in the digital era

Journalism is evolving day by day alongside technological advancements and the changing news consumption habits of readers and audiences. On this journey, the People's Public Security (PPS) Online Newspaper has continuously adapted its operational methods, content organization, and audience engagement strategies in the digital environment. Through each developmental phase, the PPS Online Newspaper has gradually built a multi-platform information ecosystem, fostering tighter integration among the online newspaper, social media, video content, and modern digital journalism products.

From a decisive milestone...

In the memories of leaders, editing staff, journalists and workers of the PPS Newspaper, November 23, 2004, remains an unforgettable milestone when the aggregated news website of the PPS Newspaper officially connected to the Internet. This marked the initial step for the PPS Newspaper to establish its presence in a new media space, meeting the imperative of conveying information amidst rapid shifts in technology and public reception methods.

A decade later, in November 2014, the PPS Online Newspaper launched a revamped version. The year of 2016 marked another memorable milestone in its journey of innovation, adaptation and growth with the official launch of its Fanpage and official English edition. Featuring six specialized sections at the time, namely PPS Online Vietnamese Edition, World Security, Global Police, World Security Mid-Month & End-of-Month, Public Security Arts and Literature, and PPS Online English Edition, the PPS Online Newspaper affirmed its position and prestige, becoming one of Viet Nam’s leading electronic newspapers and holding an irreplaceable position within the PPS press system in the digital age.

Beyond promptly reflecting political, economic, social and national defense-security events, while contributing to spreading the positive image of PPS officers and soldiers in social life, the PPS Online Newspaper effectively organized numerous other activities during that period. Most notably, its annual online exchanges and admissions counseling sessions for PPS academies attracted millions of visits. The PPS Online Newspaper reached a traffic volume of 15 to 20 million page views per month, maintaining a stable readership of nearly 1 million domestic and overseas readers.

The Fanpage of the PPS Newspaper garnered nearly 300,000 followers, consistently attracting immense interaction from readers.

These figures reflect not only the appeal of a press channel on the Internet, but also demonstrate a powerful shift in how the PPS Newspaper carries out its information and dissemination duties, proactively bringing official information to the public at large.

...To a powerful transformation in the digital era

If over two decades ago, the Internet opened the door for the PPS Newspaper to enter a new media space, then in 2026, the digital era opens up a broader yet far more challenging journey for the PPS Online Newspaper. The rise of social media, the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence (AI), and increasingly fierce competition for information present mainstream journalism with an urgent imperative for radical change.

To fulfill task requirements in the new context, the PPS Online Newspaper has step by step implemented digital transformation in a more synchronized manner across newsroom management, content production, and publication operations. By accelerating the application of digital journalism technology, it brings official information closer to the public, continuing to mark important milestones in the ongoing journey of innovation and development of the PPS Newspaper.

The first notable mark is the construction of the specialized section "14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Viet Nam" on the PPS Online Newspaper. The 14th Party Congress was a major political event of the nation in 2026, drawing deep interest and attention from the general public, Party members nationwide, and international friends. Fulfilling the political mandate of a key press agency to serve public information and communication work for the Party Congress in a centralized, unified, and seamless manner, the specialized page was officially launched on January 7, 2026.

An elaborately organized and creative media campaign was launched, focusing on providing official information on the outcomes of the 14th Party Congress. Thousands of news reports and articles are updated regularly, alongside modern journalistic products such as eMagazines, short videos, podcasts, and infographics.

This allows the public to fully and accurately access major directional contents, strategic thinking, and guiding views of General Secretary To Lam at the 14th Party Congress.

Digital technology is utilized not merely as a transmission medium, but as a tool to organize information scientifically, visually, and diversely, enhancing audience reach. At the same time, it contributes to guiding public opinion, refuting false and hostile views, and building consensus across society.

Modern yet true to the essence of revolutionary journalism

Implementing the plan of the Ministry of Public Security on the "Journalism Digital Transformation Strategy to 2025, with Orientation to 2030" within the People’s Public Security Forces (PPSF) and the 2026 work program, the Public Security Communications Department and the PPS Newspaper to mobilize resources and coordinate with functional units to urgently construct an electronic newsroom management system and redesign the online newspaper interface to drive growth and attract readers.

Following an intensive implementation period, on May 26, 2026, the electronic newsroom management system and the new interface of the PPS Online Newspaper officially debuted. Accordingly, the new interface of the PPS Online Newspaper is designed in a modern, intuitive direction while firmly maintaining the political commentary identity and authoritative character of a press agency belonging to the PPSF.

The homepage is organized under an open structure with clear information hierarchy, helping readers easily access breaking, topical, and in-depth content. The category system is arranged scientifically to enhance navigation and optimize the reading experience on both desktop computers and mobile devices. Imagery has been standardized to a 16:9 ratio, creating visual uniformity across the online newspaper, social media and other digital platforms.

On the new management platform, the PPS Newspaper collaborated with PPS Radio to introduce a Podcast section on the PPS Online Newspaper, providing a new information reception experience for readers in the digital space.

Multimedia journalism products such as videos, podcasts, eMagazines and Longforms are prominently featured alongside traditional journalism forms in the PPS Online Newspaper. A print-reading feature has been integrated into the system, offering readers convenient access to the daily print editions of the PPS Newspaper in the digital environment.

Specialized publications such as World Security, Public Security Arts and Literature, alongside local specialized features, have been restructured toward clearer brand recognition and tighter organization.

These efforts in digital transformation and the application of technology to produce digital journalism by the PPS Newspaper were highly commended by Lieutenant General Do Trieu Phong, Director of the Public Security Department for Communications.

Speaking at the launch ceremony of the electronic newsroom management system and the new interface of the PPS Online Newspaper, Lieutenant General Do Trieu Phong affirmed that putting the new web interface and management system into operation demonstrates a proactive spirit in adapting to the development requirements of journalism in the digital environment, while reflecting a determination to innovate newsroom operations toward greater modernity and professionalism.

According to Director Do Trieu Phong, collaborating with PPS Radio to launch the Podcast section on the PPS Online Newspaper is a direction aligned with multi-platform journalism trends. It also serves as an important initial step toward gradually forming a converged newsroom model, enhancing content linkage, sharing, and resonance within the PPS media ecosystem.

However, these innovations represent only part of the roadmap for digital transformation, building a converged newsroom model, and expanding multi-platform development for the PPS Newspaper. As shared by Senior Colonel Nguyen Thanh Binh, Deputy Director of the Department of Communications of the People's Public Security and Editor-in-Chief of the PPS Newspaper at the ceremony, what has been implemented remains an experimental step in exploring and incrementally perfecting the practical operating model of digital journalism.

This directly materializes the overarching guidance of the Department's leadership, specifically the Director, toward driving substantive digital transformation in journalism.

Practical results show that effective digital transformation efforts are reflected not only in the online newspaper model but also across other platforms. The PPS Fanpage has been intensively developed and currently boasts 1.5 million followers with nearly 100 million views per month.

The Fanpage is highly regarded for its high prestige and rich content, promptly reflecting social events while particularly contributing to spreading the positive image of PPS officers and soldiers in the "Three Mosts" Movement ("Most Disciplined – Most Loyal – Closest to the People"). In parallel, the PPS Newspaper's YouTube channel has been revitalized, attracting tens of thousands of subscribers, with posted content achieving strong reach and broad dissemination throughout the community.

After 22 years of continuous innovation and adaptation, evolving from a new information space opened on the Internet, the PPS Online Newspaper has diversified its presentation formats, modernized its management and newsroom organization models, and step by step formed a multi-platform media ecosystem. It continues to affirm its role as an authoritative, trustworthy news channel and a vital bridge between the People's Public Security force and the public—contributing to spreading positive information and upholding the social responsibility of revolutionary journalism in the digital environment.
