Vietnam shares experiences in applying nuclear medicines

PSNews - Thanks to the nuclear medicine, radiation techniques and chemical radiotherapies, the center has diagnosed and effectively treated cancer patients over the past years.

The Bach Mai Hospital hosted an international workshop on nuclear medicine on February 20th, in Hanoi with the participation of representatives from 17 countries in the Asia-Pacific.

Representatives of the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute, the Vietnam Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Safety, the International Atomic Energy Agency and the Regional Co-operative Agreement Regional Office attended the workshop.

Speaking at the workshop, Associate Professor Nguyen Quoc Anh, Director of Bach Mai Hospital stated that the cooperation program between Bach Mai Hospital and the International Atomic Energy Agency has been effectively deployed over the past years.

In particular, the technical cooperation project IAEA TC RAS/06/083 has contributed significantly to improving the quality of patient care and the capacity of governmental agencies under the Regional Cooperative Agreement. Thus, doctors will be equipped with more special medical capacities in dealing with non-contagious diseases, such as cancer, heart-related disease.

In Vietnam, Bach Mai Hospital represents one of the pioneers in applying nuclear medicine to diagnosis and treatment. Currently, Bach Mai Hospital has 3,100 beds and receives 6,000 patients a day.

Meanwhile, the Back Mai Nuclear Medicine and Tumours Center with over 200 beds has so far provided treatments for thousands of patients.

Thanks to the nuclear medicine, radiation techniques and chemical radiotherapies, the center has diagnosed and effectively treated cancer patients over the past years.

On February 20th – 24th, delegates will participate in several working session with the aim of assessing RAS/06/083 project, planning activities for the 2017-2018 period, as well as sharing experience in the application of nuclear medicine in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
