Vietnam’s self-propelled auto vehicle programming contest launched on regional scale

The national self-propelled vehicle programming contest - Digital Race 2018-2019 was launched by Vietnam Television (VTV) and tech giant FPT Group, in Hanoi in October.

The contest welcomes participants from all universities and colleges across the nation as well as in Asia. They will have a chance to research, create, and experience the latest technologies in the self-propelling field, in addition to competing for prizes worth a total value of over VND1.5 billion (over US$64,000), of which the champions will obtain a VND1.1 billion prize.

With the aim of boosting automobile technology research and development in Vietnam, following the latest trend of the fourth Industrial Revolution, since 2016, FPT has organised the Digital Race with the theme of creating self-propelled vehicles.

Bui Quang Ngoc, General Director of FPT, said that the race is a playground for young Vietnamese people to approach and practice with the latest technology in the world, and also creates a global environment that enables young people to equip the skills to be confident and ready to enter the fourth Industrial Revolution.

Do Quoc Khanh, Head of the Science and Education Department of VTV, expressed his wish that the event will be an attractive and educational playground for students, offering them a particularly effective learning environment to promote creativity in the field of new technology in Vietnam.

Contestants are allowed to register for the event at http://dangky.cuocduaso.fpt.com.vn until November 5. Each team consists of 3-4 members from the same university, with knowledge related to image processing, statistical machine learning, embedded programming, artificial intelligence, Linux programming and C/C ++ language.

The preliminary races will be held in Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City from November 15 to December 15 to select the top 20 teams for the next round. The semi-finals will take place from March 1 to March 31 next year to find at least the six best teams to progress to the finals, which will be held from April 20 to May 25, 2019.

Previously, the 2017-2018 Digital Race attracted over 800 participants from 32 universities across the country. The UET Fastest team from the Vietnam National University- Hanoi’s University of Engineering and Technology were crowned champions.
