15-inch MacBook Pro laptops banned on flights

PSNews - The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) on August 21 decided to ban passengers and crew members from bringing 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops produced and sold between September 2015 and February 2017 on fights.

The ban followed the recall order by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops produced and sold between September 2015 and February 2017, and the decision of the US Federal Aviation Administration on banning the transportation of 15-inch Macbook Pro laptops produced and sold between September 2015 and February 2017.

This type of laptop is not allowed on plane as their batteries are announced to be defective.

“In order to ensure safety for passengers and aircraft during the flight, the CAAV ban the carriage of this type of laptop. Passengers who deliberately act against this regulation can be denied from being transported and fined”, said Mr. Dinh Viet Thang, Director of the CAAV.

VCCA also requested all airlines to inform their agents and ticket offices of the new regulation, while asking airports to strengthen security checks and draw up plans to handle cases of this kind of laptops found on flights.

The CAAV also urged all airports to strengthen supervision, closely coordinate with relevant units in implementing the ban.
