Vietnamese college lecturers build multi-purpose wheelchairs for disabled people

PSNews - Lecturer Pham Hung Anh and his colleagues at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of Phu Yen Vocational College have successfully built a multi-purpose wheelchair model at a lower price compared to the imported products.

According to Pham Hung Anh, traditional wheelchairs have a very simple structure. Users have to use their hands to move the wheels. The price of a wheelchair ranges from 20 to 120 million VND so many poor disabled people in Vietnam do not afford to purchase a good one.

Having been preoccupied with an idea of making a good but low-cost product for poor disabled people, Hung Anh and his colleagues in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of Phu Yen Vocational College researched and built a multi-purpose wheelchair model.

The multi-purpose wheelchair weighs 50kg and is operated by a button control system. Besides, the wheelchair is also integrated with many other features, such as stretching out and turning into a bed.

The multi-purpose wheelchair designed by Pham Hung Anh and his colleagues are used for people weighing up to 100kg. Particularly, a multi-purpose wheelchair costs only 15 million VND.

A number of multi-purpose wheelchairs have been delivered to many patients at the Phu Yen Rehabilitation Hospital for trial use and received positive feedbacks from the patients.
