Agencies requested to step up drafting of National Target Program on countering drug crime

Member of the Politburo and Minister of Public Security General To Lam chaired a meeting of the Steering Committee for Drafting the National Target Program on Countering Drug Crime and Improving Effectiveness of Drug Addiction Treatment, on the afternoon of April 3, 2024, at the Ministry of Public Security.

The Ministry of Public Security has been entrusted by the Prime Minister in collaboration with the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs and relevant ministries and branches to draft the National Target Program on Countering Drug Addiction and Improving Effectiveness of Drug Addiction Treatment. 

To meet this end, the Ministry of Public Security has released a plan, established the Steering Committee to draft the Program, as well as set out a detailed and specific roadmap, and assigned responsibilities to each ministry, branch or agency as a member of the Steering Committee over the past time.

At the meeting, the Standing Steering Committee announced the Decision to establish the Steering Committee. General To Lam, Member of the Politburo, Minister of Public Security, serves as Head of the Steering Committee.

 During the meeting, delegates discussed the timelines coordination and measures to accelerate the drafting of the National Target Program.

Concluding the meeting, General To Lam emphasized that the drafting of the National Target Program is of the major tasks given by the Politburo to the Government. 

The minister considered that, without a comprehensive, strategic program, drug crime and drug abuse will become more and more dangerous and complex.

He requested that relevant ministries, branches, agencies and units heighten their sense of responsibilities and make special effort to complete the tasks assigned by the Government and the Politburo.

General To Lam assigned the Office of the Ministry of Public Security and other members of the Working Group from the ministries and agencies responsible for component projects to review and revise the dradt National Target Program based on good ideas and opinions given by delegates at the meeting. 

He also asked the Working Group to hold more seminars to listen to opinions of scientists and experts and early complete the draft and send it to ministries, agencies and localities for comments before handing it to the Steering Committee by May 15, 2024.
