On the afternoon of May 14 in Hanoi, Senior Lieutenant General Le Van Tuyen, Member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Minister of Public Security, received Singaporean Ambassador to Vietnam Rajpal Singh.

At the meeting, Deputy Minister Le Van Tuyen highly appreciated the substantive and effective development of Vietnam–Singapore relations across various fields, including defence, security, education and training, tourism, culture and people-to-people exchanges. In particular, Party General Secretary To Lam’s official visit to Singapore in March 2025 marked a major milestone as the two countries upgraded ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Within this broader framework, cooperation between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and Singaporean law enforcement agencies has achieved positive results.

Based on the “Agreement on Cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Ministry of Home Affairs of Singapore on Preventing and Combating Transnational Crime”, the two sides have maintained exchange of criminal information, coordinated in handling numerous cases through Interpol channels, and enhanced cooperation in combating drug-related crimes, tracking wanted fugitives and organizing professional training.

Beyond traditional areas of cooperation, the two sides are now seeking to expand collaboration into the digital sphere.

Overview of the meeting.

As cybercrime, cross-border fraud and cybersecurity risks continue to rise, Vietnam and Singapore agreed to effectively implement the bilateral agreement on transnational crime prevention and the Memorandum of Understanding between Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security and Singapore’s Ministry of Digital Development and Information on digital transformation.

Under these frameworks, the two sides will strengthen strategic information sharing on issues of mutual concern, coordinate efforts against organised transnational crime, drug trafficking, economic crimes, fraud and cybercrime, and promote connectivity between electronic citizens’ identification and authentication platforms to improve citizen management in both countries.

On this occasion, Deputy Minister Le Van Tuyen proposed that Singapore expand cooperation in ensuring cybersecurity and network safety, share experience in applying science and technology to crime prevention and control, and support Vietnam’s efforts in operating and managing the National Data Centre, as well as provide consultancy and assistance in developing high-performance computing and artificial intelligence centres.
