In the "Cohesive and Responsive” spirit, Vietnam closely cooperated with ASEAN member states in overcoming great challenges and difficulties from natural disasters, the COVID-19 and the slowdown of the global economy, and geostrategic competition between major powers.

Senior Lieutenant General Bui Van Nam emphasized, in the boom of smart Internet-based devices and breakthroughs in network technologies and big data, cyber security has become one of the biggest non-traditional security challenges to the sustainable development of a growing ASEAN economy.

This requires the ASEAN countries to make constant efforts to improve their capacity to ensure information and network security and prevent cybercrime.

According to Deputy Minister Bui Van Nam, over the past time, the ASEAN countries and their three dialogue partners have shared experience in ensuring cyber security and cooperated in improving the capacity to cope with cyber attacks, cyber terrorism, cybercrime and hi-tech crime. In the time ahead, the ASEAN+3 countries should continue to expand international cooperation in cyber security, in the context of emerging multilateralism and rules-based international cooperation.

The nations must continue to coordinate in combating and handling cybercrime, hi-tech and transnational crimes as well as strengthen cooperation among law enforcement agencies. In particular, they should prioritise the development of high-quality human resources.

According to the Ministry of Public Security, during 2020, the ASEAN+3 countries conducted a number of campaigns to fight online fraud, and stop the spread of malicious codes over the internet.

The MPS of Vietnam also  promoted cooperation with law enforcement agencies of the ASEAN+3 countries to investigate and handle a number of hi-tech crime cases, contributing to ensuring cyber security in the region, maintaining peace, stabilizing political security and promoting socio-economic development in the region.
