The event, which was chaired by Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Phuc, Director of the Police Department of Custody, Temporary Detention and Community-based Corrections, was connected between leaders of the department from the headquarters of the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) in Hanoi and the police departments of 63 provinces and cities nationwide.
Major General Le Quoc Hung, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of Public Security, attended the conference.
In 2021, the department has closely followed the work programs launched by the MPS, advised the MPS leadership to give recommendations to the State President on solutions for difficulties in management of detainees and execution of death sentences during the pandemic.
Additionally, it directed its sub-units and local police departments to effectively prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic into detention facilities.
Further, the department coordinated with local police forces to maintain security at custody facilities and prevent detainees from escaping and causing disturbances therein.
They also paid due attention to managing and educating offenders under community-based corrections and sentenced persons on probation.
Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister Le Quoc Hung emphasized that the department should actively advise the MPS leadership to draft legal documents and promote judicial reforms related to the functions and tasks of the police force in charge of managing temporary detainees and community-based convicts.
The Deputy Minister asked the department to regularly inspect the task performance of local police units and check detention facilities while instructing them to deal with tough issues regarding managing detainees, and preventing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic into detention facilities.
