Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc works with police units in Can Tho

Major General Nguyen Duy Ngoc, Deputy Minister of Public Security, on February 15 visited and worked with Waterway Flotilla 2 under the Traffic Police Department of the Southwestern Mobile Police Regiment, based in Can Tho city.

According to a report delivered by Major To Quang Minh, Commander of Waterway Flotilla 2 at the meeting, the unit carried out over 750 patrols with the participation of over 2,700 turns of officers, handled over 1,000 violations of the traffic laws and fined 1.3 billion VND.

The flotilla caught 37 people on 20 waterway platforms with their tonnage of 10-270 tons in the act of illegally mining sand in the Tien river,, on December 21, 2019.

On the inspection, vehicles’ owners had no licenses or other legal documents on exploiting sand. They later confessed that they illegally exploited sand to sell it in neighboring provinces.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc appreciated the efforts and achievements of Waterway Flotilla 2 and asked them to overcome difficulties and fulfil all given tasks, especially their key tasks of maintaining water traffic safety and order and intensifying the fight against illegal sand mining.

At the meeting with the Mobile Police Regiment, Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc recognized and spoke highly of the efforts and achievements of the unit in the past time.

He also asked the unit to continue their social activities in support of the people in remote and disadvantaged localities and areas with  a key position regarding political security and public order.

Deputy Minister Ngoc asked the Regiment to mobilize people to join the security protection movement and promote ties with the local authorities and people.
