With the rapid development of science and technology, and the achievements of the 4th Industrial Revolution, terrorists have been taking full advantage of the Internet and social networks to propagate their ideologies, give instructions on terror attacks and encourage terrorism.

Delegates at the conference were interested in Vietnam’s measures to prevent and combat terrorism in the country, shared by Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Thanh.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Thanh showed consensus and support for the anti-terrorism approaches proposed by the UN. To effectively deny the use of advanced technologies and AI for terror activities, the Vietnamese delegation proposed countries promote cooperation and coordination in implementing these solutions.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Thanh hoped that countries in the world would support Vietnam when it takes a non-permanent member seat at the UN Security Council and the Chairmanship of ASEAN in 2020 so as it can make the largest contribution to ensuring international security and succeed in hosting regional events in the time to come.

According to BelTA, the High-Level Conference on Counter-Terrorism aims to discuss multilateral efforts and develop solutions at the global, regional and national levels to combat terrorists and terrorist groups amid a wider access to and a growing complexity of applied technologies.

The conference divides into three themed sessions to discuss the misuse of new technologies and artificial intelligence by terrorists, approaches and strategies to counteract terrorist propaganda and the misuse of scientific progress.  The conference has brought together representatives of nearly 50 countries.
