Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Thanh works with Can Tho Fire Police

PSNews – The Can Tho Municipal Fire Police on January 29 held a conference to review its task performance in 2017 and to roll out major tasks for 2018 with the attendance of Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Thanh, Party Central Committee’s member, Deputy Minister of Public Security.

The event also saw the participation of leaders of Can Tho city and representatives from relevant units of the Ministry of Public Security.

In 2017, the Can Tho Municipal Fire Police took the initiative in grasping the situation and implementing plans in a synchronous and timely to ensure security, order and fire safety of the city.

The local fire force coordinated with other forces to ensure absolute safety for key locations, the visits of international delegations, leaders of the Party and the State to Can Tho city as well as big events, such as Lunar New Year holidays and APEC 2017 Food Security Week.

The Can Tho Municipal Fire Police checked 4,837 establishments in the area in 2017, and discovered 9,476 mistakes and promptly proposed measures to correct the mistakes.

The force also inspected the observance of fire safety regulations at 29 facilities prone to fire. During the year, the force made records of fire safety violations of 126 facilities, and collected 364 million VND of administrative fines.

Meanwhile, the excellent 12/1 Fire Prevention and Fighting model was effectively applied in the area. The 12/1 model is known as a voluntary association of 12 households in one area with one team leader, one deputy and 10 members to help each other deploy fire prevention measures, detect and extinguish fire at the first stage in their area.

For their great efforts and achievements in 2017, the Can Tho Municipal Fire Police was honored with noble awards and titles by the Government, the Ministry of Public Security and the Can Tho Municipal People’s Committee.

On behalf of the Central Public Security Party Committee, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Thanh recognized and praised the achievements of the Can Tho Municipal Fire Police in recent times.

He asked the unit to well implement its tasks in 2018 and focus on force building.

The Deputy Minister also asked the Can Tho Municipal Fire Police to actively and effectively advise local Party organizations and authorities on fire safety measures; well coordinate with local forces, especially military units, in ensuring absolute safety and security in the locality, contributing to local social-economic development.

The unit was requested to focus on training work for grassroots-level fire prevention teams; to enhance the efficiency of the State management work of fire prevention and fighting; to strengthen the inspection of the observance of laws on fire safety of businesses and facilities; and to raise the firefighting capabilities and working conditions for fire police officers.
