Ha Tinh Police deploy force to help people in flooded areas

PSNews – Hundreds of police officers of the Ha Tinh Provincial Police have been mobilized to evacuate people and assets from flooded areas to safe places, as heavy downpours have inundated many localities in the Central region deeply.

The country's Central region has been battered by torrential downpours in recent weeks, causing severe flooding and landslides. Many places in Ha Tinh province are experiencing the worst flood in decades. Against the backdrop, the Ha Tinh Police has deployed hundreds of officers and means to help local people dealing with the flood.

On October 20, Senior Colonel Le Khac Thuyet, Director of Ha Tinh Provincial Police and Mr. Hoang Trung Dung, Secretary of the Ha Tinh Provincial Party Committee and dozens of police officers joined hands with local force to transport food and other supplies to people isolated by the flooding in Cam Xuyen district.

The director of the provincial police earlier directed all local police units to take measures to minimize losses caused by the natural disasters. Additionally, leaders of the provincial police also came to various areas to check and direct the efforts responding to the floods.

In days, the officer have been deployed to join local police forces in surveying the situation in key localities and critical areas with high risks of floods and landslides to find the preventive measures while quickly handling cases related to public order and security.

In flood-prone areas, policemen helped local people relocate their property to safe places. Up to now, all police units have prepared their forces and means for all possible incidents caused by floods and rains.

According to the VNA, local authorities of Ha Tinh province plan to evacuate more than 45,000 residents living downstream of Ke Go reservoir as the water level is rising. Reservoir levels have been almost a meter higher than normal due to prolonged torrential rain.

While facing water flow from the upstream, the Ke Go reservoir has released water at 900 cu.m per second on October 19 morning.  According to the provincial Steering Committee on Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, other large reservoirs and dams like Boc Nguyen, Khe Xai, Tau Voi, Thuong Song Tri also discharged water at higher than normal levels.
