Minister To Lam has separate meetings with senior US officials

PSNews – During his working trip to the US, Minister of Public Security, General To Lam on April 24 held talks with US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs David Hale and met with US Deputy Homeland Security Secretary David Pekoske.

At his meeting with Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs David Hale, Minister To Lam and the US top official discussed international and regional issues of mutual concern.

The two sides stressed that, after 24 years of normalization of bilateral relations, Vietnam-US relations have developed in both width and depth, covering many areas: security and defense; economy and trade; culture and education; tourism; science and technology; and humanitarian activities.

Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs David Hale highly appreciated the US-Vietnam comprehensive partnership in general and cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the US State Department in particular.

Minister To Lam, for his part, emphasized that Vietnam always considers the US as one of the most important partners, and wishes to continue promoting the two countries’ partnership on the basis of mutual respect for each other’s independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and political institutions for benefits of the two peoples and for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

Vietnam appreciates the US for completing the project of dioxin decontamination at Da Nang airport and believes that the dioxin remediation project at Bien Hoa airport will soon be activated, said Minister To Lam.

On the same day, Minister To Lam had a meeting with US Deputy Homeland Security Secretary David Pekoske.

The two sides agreed that the cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the US Department of Homeland Security saw many positive developments since the US Department of Homeland Security opened its representative office for Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Ho Chi Minh City in 1998.

The two sides have successfully collaborated in destroying many big transnational criminal cases related to the illegal appropriation of millions of US dollars.

In order to enhance the ties between the two organizations, Minister To Lam proposed to promote cooperation between law enforcement agencies and criminal justice authorities of the two countries through the existing mechanisms between the two countries.

Minister To Lam also asked the two sides to enhance exchange of high-level delegations to promptly exchange information about crime, share experience in fighting crimes, especially hi-tech crime, economic crime, human trafficking crime, as well as to enhance consultancy with each other on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters and in hunting fugitives.

Earlier, Minister To Lam also received Ann Griffiths, President of the US National League of POW/MIA Families​during the war in Vietnam.
