The Ministry of Public Security (MPS) held an online meeting on November 18 to review the results of an intensive seven-month drive of checking residential quarters, households, and shop-houses for fire safety.

The event connected the MPS Headquarters in Hanoi with the police departments in provinces and municipalities. Deputy Minister of Public Security Major General Le Quoc Hung attended and delivered a speech at the meeting.

A report presented at the meeting read that, over the past 7 months, the Police Department of Fire and Rescue has advised the MPS leadership to coordinate with the Ministry of Information and Communications to enhance fire-related laws dissemination on both official press and media channels as well as on social networks. 

Fire police in collaboration with local authorities mobilized households to remove caged-balconies, creating second exits for their homes. People were also encouraged to equip their apartments and houses with firefighting and escape tools. 

Additionally, the fire department also organized online training courses for local police nationwide on using and managing the 114 Fire Alarm App.

The department  regularly posted information about fire prevention and rescue guidelines as well as nationwide fire situation on the department’s website  and its Facebook fanpage while providing 22 fire prevention and safety skills, eight firefighting skills, and 21 escape skills via the 114 Fire Alarm App.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister Le Quoc Hung emphasized the need to continue disseminating information about fire safety and inspecting fire prevention and fighting plans at residential quarters, households and shop-houses, saying that the information and inspection drive contributed to reducing material and human losses caused by fires and explosions over the past time.

He also gave major tasks to the fire and rescue police force in the time to come, asking them to continue seriously implementing the intensive campaign until the end of April 15, 2022.

On this occasion, the MPS awarded Certificates of Merit to two teams and four police officers of the Hanoi police, Son La provincial police and Ha Tinh provincial police for their outstanding achievements in firefighting. The Police Department of Fire and Rescue presented Certificates of Merit to 12 teams and 12 police officers of local police units for outstanding achievements in carrying out the campaign.
