Ministry of Public Security reviews task performance in first half of 2021

PSNews - The Ministry of Public Security (MPS) held a conference on June 21 in Hanoi to review the Public Security Forces’ (PSF) task performances over the past six months and roll out working plans for the second half of 2021.

The conference, which was chaired by Politburo’s Member and Minister of Public Security General To Lam, saw the presence of Politburo’s Member and State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc among representatives from various central-level agencies, deputy ministers of public security, leaders of under-ministerial public security units, and local police departments.

In his opening remarks, General To Lam emphasized that the conference was held when the entire Party, people, and armed forces were joining efforts to realize the Resolution of the 13th National PartyCongress and the 2021-25 socio-economic development plan and 2021-30 socio-economic development strategy. 

Particularly, the entire Party, people and armed forces are trying their best to achieve the "dual goal" of fighting the COVID-19 pandemic and maintaining socio-economic development.

On behalf of the MPS leadership, Deputy Minister Lieutenant General Luong Tam Quang delivered a report summarizing results of the PSF’s task performances in the first half of 2021 and their key missions for the second half of the year.

According to the report, over the past months, the PSF closely followed the leadership and direction of the Party and Stateand closely coordinated with ministries, sectors and local authoritiesto foil all sabotage plots and activities by hostile and reactionary forces and safeguard important political, economic and cultural events of the country, especially ensuring absolute safety and security for the 13th National Party Congress, and the election of deputies to the 15th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels.

In the fight against COVID-19 pandemic, all public security agencies and units have proactively worked out plans to prevent the spread of the disease among public security officers and soldiers. Together with the health sector and the army, the PSF continued playing an active role as a front-line force in the fight against the pandemic.

Additionally, the local-level police units effectively traced COVID-19 contacts in the community while enhancing the management of entry, exit and foreigners’ residence to mitigate the risk of virus spread, and strictly handling people taking advantage of the pandemic to violate the laws.

In the fight against crimes, the PSF reduced the crime commission rate by 3.61% compared to the same period in 2020. Particularly, the police forces nationwide successfully investigated 15,406 cases of social-order-related crimes (or 83.84% of the total cases, 8.84% higher than the target set by the National Assembly), cracked down on 847 criminal gangs, prosecuted more than 12,000 drug-related cases with more than 17,600 people involved and seized 299.4 kg of heroin, 1,161.66 kg and 1,045,079 tablets of synthetic drug, 834.78 kg of cannabis.

Over the past time, the police forces have basically completed two projects on national population database and chip-based ID cards. By June 14, the police nationwide had received more than 53.8 million applications for e-ID cards, reaching 107.8% of the set target.

Speaking at the conference, on behalf of the Party and State, State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc praised the PSF for their great efforts and achievements over the past months.

President Nguyen Xuan Phuc affirmed that, the PSF have overcome various difficulties and challenges amidst the COVID-19 pandemic tofulfill their assigned tasks, ensuring the stable and peaceful life for the people and maintaining national security.

About their future tasks, State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc requested the Public Security Party organization and the MPS to further improve their leadership capacity as well as thoroughly implement the Resolutions of the 13th Party National Congress and the 7th Public Security Party Congress.

The State President also asked the PSF to continue grasping the situation and promptly advise the Party and State on strategies to protect national sovereignty, social order and security in the country.

Especially, he asked the PSF to enhance scientific and technological research and development while actively and effectively applying advances of the Fourth Industrial Revolution in performing their tasks and fighting crimes, and effectively exploiting the national database on population for the building of the e-government and digital society.

On behalf of the PSF, Minister To Lam thanked the Party and State leaders for their care for the forces.

Minister To Lam asked the PSF’s chains of command to seriously follow State President Phuc’s instructions while performing their assigned tasks in the new situation.

The conference was concluded on the afternoon of the same day.

* On this occasion, under the authority of the Party and State, Minister To Lam awarded the Third-class Military Exploit Order to two excellent public security officers, the First-class Fatherland Protection Order to an outstanding police unit and the Feat of Arms Order to six officers with great achievements.
