Ministry of Public Security reviews task performance in May 2020

PSNews - General To Lam, Politburo Member, Secretary of the Public Security Central Party Committee and Minister of Public Security, on June 1 chaired a monthly meeting of the Ministry of Public Security to review its task performance in May 2020.

At the meeting, Major General To An Xo, Chief of Ministry of Public Security’s Office delivered a report on the results of police work in May 2020 and a working plan for June 2020.

According to the report, public security agencies and units nationwide have strictly followed the instructions of the Party Central Committee, the National Assembly, the Government and the Ministry of Public Security on the protection of national security and maintenance of public order and safety while actively fighting sabotage activities by hostile and reactionary forces.

They have effectively solved emerging issues related to security, social order and religious and ethnic issues as well as ensured absolute safety for important socio-political events, including the 12th session of the 12th-tenure Party Central Committee, the 9th session of the 14th National Assembly. 

Particularly, the Public Security Forces have participated actively in and safeguard various activities in celebration of the 130th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh, the 45 th National Reunification Day and the International Workers’ Day.

The Public Security Forces have also taken drastic preventive measures against the COVID-19 pandemic, joining efforts of the whole country in prevention and control of the disease.

Regarding crime prevention and control, the Public Security Forces have successfully investigated 3,324 social order-related cases, destroyed 179 criminal rings, and handled 634 gambling cases with more than 4,100 people involved. 

Meanwhile, local police forces have handled 105 cases and arrested 159 subjects related to illegal storage, trade and use of weapons, explosives, firecrackers and combat gears, with 88 guns, 1,087 bullets, more than 582 kg of explosives, 1,265 detonators, 12 combat gears, 74 kg of firecrackers while mobilizing local people to surrender 286 guns of all kinds, 1,001 bullets and three kg of explosives to the authorities.

The traffic police force, in coordination with other functional forces, has handled nearly 234,000 cases of violations against traffic order and safety, including nearly 9,100 drunk-driving cases,  seized more than 38,000 vehicles of all kinds and fined more than VND 227 billion.

Speaking at the meeting, Minister To Lam praised all public security officers and soldiers for their great efforts to overcome difficulties and successfully fulfilled their assigned tasks over the past month.

Regarding the key tasks in the coming time, Minister To Lam asked all public security agencies and units to continue following the instructions of the Party, the State and the Ministry of Public Security on protecting national sovereignty, security, social order and safety, so as to contribute positively to recovering national socio-economic development in the post-COVID-19 period.

The public security agencies and units were requested to draw up plans to ensure security and safety for national and international events within the framework of Vietnam’s ASEAN Year 2020 while firmly safeguarding key projects, structures and activities of leaders of the Party, the State, and international delegations in Vietnam.

The police should also pay due attention to preventing and combating crimes, law violations and social evils, especially organized crimes and gambling.

The police units, particularly at the grassroots level, should actively mobilize people to surrender illegally-stored weapons, explosives and combat gears to the authorities, restore road traffic order, prevent illegal motor races and strictly handle violations against traffic order and safety while strengthening fire prevention at detention centers.

The Minister urged all the public security agencies and units to carefully draw up plans on ensuring security and safety for Party congresses at all levels in preparation for the 13th National Party Congress while successfully organizing the congresses of their Party organizations.

The public security press agencies should pay attention to popularizing and depicting the beautiful image of the public security officers and soldiers to the public.
