More efforts required to combat illegal exploitation of minerals

Major General Nguyen Duy Ngoc, Deputy Minister of Public Security, attended and delivered a keynote speech at a videoconference on November 5 reviewing the three-year implementation of the plans by the Ministry of Public Security to prevent and curb illegal exploitation of natural minerals.

According to a report presented by Major General Le Tan Tao, Director of the Environmental Police Department, over the past 3 years, police units in various localities have followed the directions of the Ministry’s leaders and suggested various measures to handle violations in mineral exploitation; detected and handled numerous violations of the regulations on mining, transportation and storage of minerals, especially sand and gravel, contributing to ensuring security and order in the localities.

Between 2016 and 2019, the police of provinces and cities detected 17,527 cases with 17,909 persons involved; prosecuted 74 cases and 153 suspects; imposed over 196 billion Dongs of administrative fine on offenders. Since the beginning of 2019, the police force has handled 659 cases involving 426 persons in illegal sand mining, imposed 12.08 billion Dongs of administrative fine and prosecuted 2 major cases in Thanh Hoa and Dong Nai provinces.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc applauded the efforts and achievements of relevant units and officers in implementing the plans.

He also asked relevant police units to craft concrete plans in accordance with their functions and missions. He also urged the police units to launch campaigns to suppress this type of crime in the remaining months of 2019.

On this occasion, various teams and individuals were honored with Certificates of Merit by the Ministry of Public Security and the Department of Environmental Police for their outstanding achievements in prevention and combat of violations in mineral exploitation and mining.
