Public Security Forces play core role in controlling drug-related crimes: PM

PSNews - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended and delivered a keynote speech at the national conference on drug prevention and control organized by the Ministry of Public Security, on March 10, 2023 in Hanoi.

The conference, which was chaired by Minister of Public Security General To Lam, was held online connecting delegates from the Ministry of Public Security Headquarters and provincial-level police departments across the country.

Addressing the conference, the Prime Minister stated that the Public Security Forces play a pivotal role in drug prevention and control, and that is a heavy and dangerous task, but also an important one. 

According to him, drug crime generates all kinds of crimes, and it causes very serious consequences to the economy, culture, society, security and defense, damages the health of a part of the population, and threatens the stability, prosperity and sustainable development of each country and people. 

Being fully aware of the danger of drug-related crime, over the years, our Party and State have paid great attention to leading, promulgating and implementing various guidelines and policies to prevent and control drug crimes, particularly, the Law on Drug Prevention and Control passed by the National Assembly and coming in effect from January 1, 2022.

During his speech, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also commended the efforts, achievements and sacrifices of the police force and other involved forces as well as authorities at all levels and people in preventing and controlling drug-related crime over the past time, saying that the police force has made important contributions to development and social order and security of the country. 

"We also respectfully pay respect to the 27 officers and soldiers of the armed forces who have heroically sacrificed themselves in the arduous battle against drug crimes," the Prime Minister said. 

In the coming time, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that the Ministry of Public Security perform well its function as the standing agency on drug prevention and control, take the lead and closely coordinating with relevant ministries and agencies in the fight against drug-related crime, employ its proficient professional expertise and efficient approaches to prevent drug-related crime, eradicate complex drug-related areas and illicit drug trading hotbeds, and strictly manage drug addicts, detoxifying them and preventing them from committing offences.

The Prime Minister asked the Ministry of National Defense to tightly check and manage the borderline, coordinate closely with police forces in preventing and controlling illicit drug trafficking and other drug-related crimes in border areas and at sea.

Concluding the conference, Minister To Lam acknowledged the instructions of the Prime Minister on drug prevention and control.

Minister To Lam also called on relevant ministries, branches and localities, especially the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of National Defense to closely and effectively coordinate with the Ministry of Public Security in the fight against drug-related crime in the coming time.
