Public Security Forces review task performance in first half of 2020

The Public Security Central Party Committee and the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) on June 25 held a meeting to review the task performance of the Public Security Forces in the first half of 2020.

A report on the implementation of the 6th Public Security Central Party Congress’ Resolution read that, in the term of 2015-2020, the Public Security Central Party Organization has closely followed the directions of the Party and the State and led the Public Security Forces to successfully implement their key tasks of protecting national security, ensuring social order and safety.

Amid the complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Public Security Forces have joined efforts with the whole country in controlling the disease. Public security officers and soldiers have come to each household to collect information about foreign and Vietnamese expats arriving in Vietnam during the pandemic outbreak as well as safeguarded quarantine zones nationwide, contributing significantly to preventing the spread of the disease into the community.

The Public Security Forces have strengthened the fight against crimes of all kinds. As a result, the rate of criminal cases in the first six months of 2020 reduced 8.4% compared to the same period in 2019.

They have successfully investigated 19,720 criminal cases and arrested 45,004 people involved while handling 4,305 gambling cases with 23,813 people involved.

The police forces have investigated 11,214 economic cases, 123 corruption cases, and 13,747 environmental law violations.

Regarding drug-related crimes, the police nationwide have handled 14,032 cases, arrested 19,738 persons involved, and seized 284.6 kg of heroin, 1,710.9 kg of synthetic drugs. Meanwhile, the number of traffic accidents and the numbers of injuries and deaths in traffic accidents have all been reduced.

At the same time, the MPS has developed the National Database on Population Project as well as amended the Law on Residence and implemented the Citizens’ ID Card Project and the Government's 896 Project on simplifying administrative procedures.

The police forces nationwide have mobilized local people to surrender 4,494 guns, 10,719 bullets, 884 grenades, bombs and mines, 17.89 kg of explosives, 1,625 detonators, 4,573 rudimentary weapons while investigating 819 cases with 1,189 people involved in illegal use and store of weapons, explosives and combat gears.

Over the past year, the local police units have posted 26,839 professional policemen to 8,592 communes and townships out of the total number of 8,652 (reaching 99.3%).

The Public Security Central Party Committee and the MPS also launched a charitable program, mobilizing public security agencies and units as well as benefactors to support the building and repair of houses of thousands of poor ethnic minority families in Dien Bien, Son La and Lai Chau provinces.

When hospitals faced a shortage of blood for medical treatment due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Public Security Forces voluntarily donated more than 40,000 blood units.

Speaking at the meeting, on behalf of the Party and State, Prime Minister (PM) Nguyen Xuan Phuc praised and recognized the achievements of the Public Security Forces over the past time. He highly appreciated the sacrifice of public security officers and soldiers who were killed or injured in the fight against crimes over the past six months (11 officers killed and 115 injured when performing their duties).

PM Phuc requested the MPS to better perform the tasks of fighting crimes, especially drug-related crime, and ensuring security and social order. He underlined that the Public Security Forces should strengthen the State management over social order and safety, foreigners’ residency and security conditional business lines.

He also asked the Public Security Forces to successfully organize the 7th Public Security Central Party Congress for the 2020-2025 term as well as conduct activities in celebration of the 75th Traditional Day of the Public Security Forces (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2020) and the 15th “All People Protecting National Security” Festive Day (August 19, 2005 - August 19, 2020).

On behalf of the entire Public Security Forces, Minister To Lam sincerely thanked the Party and the State’s leaders for their sound leadership and guidance.
