Vietnam and Laos hold 9th Security Cooperation Conference

PSNews – The 9th Security Cooperation Conference takes place on May 16 in Quy Nhon city, Binh Dinh.

The event saw the presence of Senior Lieutenant General Bui Van Nam, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of Public Security of Vietnam; and Lao Deputy Minister of Public Security Kongthong Phongvichit.

The event was chaired by Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Thanh, Director of General Department of Security under the MPS of Vietnam; Major General Bounmy Sengkhamyong, Director of the General Department of Security under the Ministry of Public Security of Laos.

The event also witnessed the participation of leaders of General Departments and under-Ministry Specialized Departments; Police Departments of 15 border provinces of Laos and Vietnam. Mr. Ho Quoc Dung, Vice Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Binh Dinh attended the event.

Deputy Minister Bui Van Nam highlighted and appreciated the fine friendship and special solidarity between the two countries and two peoples of Laos and Vietnam.

He also emphasized that the cooperation between the Ministries of Public Security of the two countries in the protection of national security in general, and between the two General Departments of Security in particular have contributed to ensuring political security, facilitating the national construction and defense cause of each country, maintaining security in the areas along the shared border, and building a peaceful and stable ASEAN Community.

The Vietnamese Deputy Minister noted that this year’s cooperation conference took place at a time when the situations in the region and the world became increasingly complicated.

As a result, the delegates of the conference should discuss and predict exact situational developments in order to suggest revising policies in time to promote cooperation in the time to come, contributing to building a border line of peace and stability.

At the end of the conference, leaders of the two General Departments of Security signed a MoU on security cooperation for the time to come.
