Vietnam – Laos agree to promote cooperation on security

PSNews–A high ranking delegation of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam on February 15 had talks with the Lao Ministry of Public Security to review the results of cooperation in 2016 and to roll out a cooperation plan for 2017 in Vientiane.

During talks, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Public Security Nguyen Van Thanh and his Lao counterpart Sinthavong Sayakon agreed to expand effective cooperation between the two ministries.

The two sides then expressed delight at good and practical outcomes of the bilateral cooperation in 2016. Particularly, the two ministries closely cooperated in performing their police work, security missions; logistics and techniques and building forces.

Especially, the two ministries of Public Security has well contributed to ensuring absolute safety and security for all political events, held in  each country. These include numerous activities within the framework of the ASEAN year of 2016 hosted by Laos.

The two ministries, with traditional relationship, have well collaborated in successfully co-organizing conferences on security and crime prevention, as well as supported each other at multilateral forums in the region and in the world.

In the directions for bilateral cooperation in the coming time, the two sides shared their views on maintaining high-level contacts between leaders of the two ministries in order to exchange information related to security and order situations in both countries.

A the meeting, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Public Security Nguyen Van Thanh and his Lao counterpart Sinthavong Sayakon also agreed to focus on maintaining security and order along the shared border, to create favorable conditions for the two sides’ forces and sister cities to promote exchanges and information sharing so as to firmly ensure national security, order social security in each country;

The two sides also pledged to promote education, information and mass mobilization activities, to raise the two peoples’ awareness of the traditional friendship and special solidarity between the two countries.

In conclusion, the two leaders said they would coordinate closely to launch activities marking the 55th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Laos relations, and 40 years since the two countries signed the treaty of friendship and cooperation.
