Vietnamese and Chinese police forces collaborate in arresting suspect of human trade

PSNews-According to Division 5, the Police Department of Criminal Pursuit (C52), under the General Department of Vietnam Police, during the implementation of the third joint campaign of police forces of Vietnam and China (from January 1 to June 30), the division double-checked subjects of police management and wanted suspects that might have fled to China.

The arrest of Duong Thi Ha

During the scrutiny, the unit identified Duong Thi Ha, 42 years old, residing in Cam Thuy district, Thanh Hoa province, who had been wanted since 2002 for trafficking women.

Duong Thi Ha, who had been a victim of human trafficking to China, was “sold” to an unidentified man in a mountainous area in Guangxi. She then escaped from human traffickers and went back to Vietnam in 1996.

Being jobless and famed for the scandal “being sold to China”, Ha became depressed. She decided to brush up her Chinese that she had learnt when living in China, to back to China to look for a job.

In order to have money to settle down there Ha cheated an undereducated young women in the same remote district.. Ha then cooperated with traffickers, including Dang Thi Vy who had trafficked Ha before, to sell the young women across the border.

In 1998, while escorting a “new batch" to China, Dang Thi Vy and her gangs were unmasked and arrested by functional forces.

By the time of her arrest, Vy had sold 4 women overseas and earned 2,500 yuan, while Ha, after two visits to Vietnam, took a woman to China and earned 1,000 yuan. Ha was pregnant at the time of her arrest and was granted bail by the authority.

Taking advantage of the State's leniency, Ha however fled from her residence. According to the Thanh Hoa police, Ha returned to China to marry and gave birth to a second child. She hardly went back home but still sent money to support her family.

After having completing the file of the wanted woman, the Vietnamese police asked the Chinese counterparts to coordinate in finding her.

The Chinese side worked effectively and soon detected a Vietnamese woman with identical features the same as Ha.

The two sides exchanged information, confirming that the subject was Ha, the one, who had been wanted for human trafficking by the Vietnamese police since 2002. They decided to arrest her.

On May 4, the Chinese side handed over the suspect to the Vietnamese side.

At this point, Vietnamese relevant agencies are completing legal procedures and will transfer the suspect to the Thanh Hoa Provincial Police for further investigation.
