Ba Thuoc Police mobilize locals to return homemade guns

PSNews - Since 2016, the Ba Thuoc District Police has mobilized and seized 220 weapons, explosives and supporting tools. Among them, there are 97 flintlocks and 95 alcohol-powered guns.

Ba Thuoc is a western mountainous district of Thanh Hoa province where 86% of the population is ethnic minorities (mainly Thai and Muong). Particularly since the beginning of 2017, the district police has mobilized locals to surrender 88 homemade guns of all kinds, 3 mine detonators and 18 electric guns.

Due to their habitual practices and living environment, many people still store and use hunting guns, flintlocks, crossbows and knives to protect themselves and hunt wildlife. Most of their weapons and explosives are made by themselves that makes it difficult for functional forces to manage and seize  homemade guns.

Recently, the Ba Thuoc District Police have proposed the local Party committee and local authorities to promote law dissemination and education for local people of ethnic minorities about the Party's guidelines and State laws on the management and use of weapons, explosives, supporting tools, as well as negative effects of the possession of weapons.

In addition, following the motto "Come to any lanes, review any houses and watch every person", the Ba Thuoc District Police make trips to hamlets to put all weapons, explosives and supporting tools on a list and promptly detected suspects of possessing illegal weapons; examined and handled loopholes in the management and use of weapons, explosives and supporting tools.

Thanks to good and efficient law dissemination of the local police force, local people have become more aware of State law and regulations in the management and use of weapons, explosives and supporting tools and people has voluntarily hand over them to the police and authorities their homemade guns.
