General Tran Dai Quang – respected commander of public security force

Before becoming the President in April 2016, General Tran Dai Quang had worked in the public security sector for years and served as Minister of Public Security from 2011 to 2016.

During his 40-year career in the public security sector since he was an officer of the Political Protection Department until he took over the Presidency, General Quang made an impression with his decisive and humanitarian actions.

Under his leadership, the public security force busted a series of important cases, including economic and corrupt ones, and handled “black society” bosses as well as those involved in law violations.

Thanks to his instructions, the quality of investigation and crime settlement was improved and the investigation process was sped up.

The General kept a close watch on criminal cases, ordered forces to soon bring masterminds of many key cases to court and visited families of victims.

Officers and soldiers in the public security force who met him or received his instructions have expressed their respect and admiration for General Quang.

Major General Phan Van Lai, head of the liaison board of police reinforced to the southern battlefield in the resistance war against the US, could not hide his grief over the General’s passing.

“In the public security sector, comrade Quang was a sharp and smart officer who was devoted to the revolutionary cause of the Party and State, and the sector in particular,” he said.

Major General Nguyen Quang Phong, head of the liaison board of retirees of the Nha Cong An Trung Uong – the governing body of the public security force, recalled General Quang’s contributions to ensuring national security and safety, and fighting hostile forces when the country faced various difficulties.

Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Ngoc Bang, former Director of the Police Department of Criminal Verdict Execution and Judicial Assistance, said comrade Quang, regardless of his position as Minister or President, always paid attention to criminal verdict enforcement and judicial assistance.

Days before passing away at the Military Central Hospital 108 on September 21, General Quang, in his capacity as the President, was sill busy with his job.

The President will be remembered by all officers, soldiers and Vietnamese people as a leader close to the people and dedicated to work, and a commander who always accompanied the public security sector.
