Local police proactively respond to Storm Son Tinh

PSNews –The local police forces in storm-affected provinces have actively prepared forces and means and coordinated with other functional forces to draw up plans to cope with Storm 3.
  • In Ha Nam:

Senior Colonel Nguyen Van Trung, Director of the Ha Nam Provincial Police Department has directed sub-departments and district-level police to develop plans in response to the storm, and ready forces and means in coordination with other forces to evacuate people from areas a at high risk of floods, landslides and river bank erosion, as well as to rescue people on request.

He also directed the Traffic Police Force of the districts and towns to increase patrols to ensure traffic safety and detect landslides and water-logged areas in time. The police units were also asked to ensure absolute safety for their offices, barracks and detention facilities as well as provincial economic and political projects.

All Ha Nam police units should maintain on-duty contingents round the clock and prepare forces and means ready for rescue missions on request.

  • In Hai Phong, Quang Ninh:

In response to the storm, the Chairman of the Hai Phong Municipal People’s Committee and Chairman of the Quang Ninh Provincial People’s Committee sent Urgent Dispatches requiring local authorities and relevant agencies and units to quickly prepare efforts to respond to the storm.

The local Standing Committees for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, Search and Rescue, based on developments of the storm, to stop all inland waterway transportations and entertainment activities in tourism areas.

The Chairman of the Quang Ninh Provincial People’s Committee also urged local authorities to inspect the residential areas, especially the areas at high risks of floods and landslides, riverside areas and areas in danger of flash floods, waste dumping sites, and prepare plans to evacuate people to safe areas.

Relevant units must be on 24/24h duty and resolutely stop vehicles and people from travelling when rain and flood occurred, and ready forces and means for rescue missions.

The Hai Phong Municipal Party Committee asked subordinate units and agencies to cancel unnecessary meetings and focus on leading local forces and people to respond to the storm. The Party Committee also asked the local press agencies and local districts to regularly update local people on the development of the storm.

As of July 18, Hai Phong mobilized 42,451 people to participate in dyke repair, disaster relief and search and rescue.

  • In Ha Tinh:

The police force in the province’s localities proactively worked out plans and implemented comprehensive approaches to deal with complicated developments of the storm, while promoting the sense of responsibilities of local police officers for natural disaster relief, search and rescue activities, and ensuring security, order and traffic safety during the storm.

The provincial police leadership directed district police forces to advise the local authorities to craft rescue and evacuation plans and form rescue teams, as well as require local boats owner to commit to following the leadership of the local committees on flood and storm control.

Leaders of Ha Tinh province have assigned key leaders together officers of provincial functional departments and agencies to localities to direct disaster relief and rescue missions.

  • In Nghe An:

Due to downpours over the last few days, the water level in some streams have risen rapidly, which has swept away temporary bridges in some mountainous districts of Nghe An and cut off some road sections.

To ensure safety of the people, local authorities mobilized police and military forces to set up barriers and guard there round the clock to prevent people from travelling when roads are waterlogged. Earlier, the local authorities had encouraged farmers to harvest agricultural products to limit damages caused by floods.

The hydropower reservoirs in the area have also announced their water discharge timetable to ensure safety for people and property.

Leaders of the Nghe An Provincial Police Department has directed local police units to maintain 100% of personnel on duty, draw up plans, prepare forces and means in response to the storm, as well as to protect the local people’s lives and property and minimize damages caused by the storm.

The local police also set up 5 inspection teams and mobilized nearly 300 police officers and soldiers down to key areas to respond to Storm No.3.
