MPS leader asks Public Security Forces to take drastic measures against COVID-19

PSNews -  Amidst the complicated development of the COVID-19 pandemic, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Son, Deputy Minister of Public Security and Head of the Steering Committee for Disease Prevention and Control under the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) chaired a meeting on May 3 in Hanoi on prevention and fight against the disease.

The meeting saw the presence of members of the MPS Steering Committee for Disease Prevention and Control and leaders of various functional units under the MPS. 

The meeting was also connected online with the police of pandemic-hit provinces and cities, namely Ha Nam, Vinh Phuc, Yen Bai, Hung Yen, Da Nang, Can Tho, Dong Nai, Khanh Hoa, Hanoi, and Ho Chi Minh City.

According to the reports at the meeting, from April 29 to May 3, 23 cases of COVID-19 infection were recorded across the country, including 17 COVID-19 cases in Ha Nam, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hung Yen and 6 others related to Chinese experts in Vinh Phuc.

On behalf of the MPS leadership, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Son highly appreciated the sense of responsibility of the Public Security Forces nationwide in preventing and controlling the pandemic.

Regarding key missions in the coming time, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Son asked the local police forces to strictly follow the instructions of the Central Party Secretariat, the Prime Minister, the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, and the directions of the MPS leaders on pandemic prevention and control.

He asked the police department of pandemic-hit localities to raise their vigilance while strengthening the management of foreigners’ residence and security-related conditional businesses so as to actively coordinate with functional units in tracing COVID-19 suspects and stamping out the pandemic breakout. 

The local police should also intensify the fight against crimes and strictly handle violations of regulations on COVID-19 prevention and control.

The Deputy Minister also requested the local police forces to proactively work out plans in response to possible pandemic scenarios in order to ensure security and order for the election of deputies to the 15th National Assembly and the 2021-2026-term People's Council, especially before and during the election day.

As for pandemic prevention in the forces, Deputy Minister Son asked all public security officers and soldiers to strictly implement preventive measures to protect themselves from the virus while performing their duties. 

Police units and agencies should frequently disinfect their offices and working places while closely coordinating with the Department of Health and the Department of Equipment and Warehousing under the MPS in equipping on-duty police officers and soldiers with personal protective equipment, disinfectant chemicals, and medical masks.

Regarding the vaccination program for public security officers and soldiers, the Deputy Minister said that the MPS will work with the Ministry of Health to continue the vaccination program in line with the Prime Minister's directions and the Ministry of Health’s plans.
