MPS leader inspects project on chip-based ID card issuance

Ministry of Public Security (MPS) recently held a video conference with the participation of representatives of all under-ministerial agencies and provincial-level police departments to review the implementation of the National Population Database Project and the Chip-based ID Card (e-ID card) Project.

Lieutenant General Nguyen Duy Ngoc, Deputy Minister of Public Security chaired the event.

Addressing the conference, the Deputy Minister spoke highly of the efforts and achievements of local police forces in implementing the two projects over the past time.

Reports at the conference said that the implementation of the two projects has gained positive results. Over the past time, the local police have mobilized means and forces to simplify e-ID card application procedures for people and process data before entering them into the National Database on Population.

Regarding the National Population Database Project, by April 27, the police departments of the 63 provinces and cities across the country have processed the data of 85,157,192/98,713,820 people (reaching 86.27%). Typically, the police of Ha Tinh, Phu Tho, Ha Nam, Quang Ninh, Thanh Hoa, Hai Duong, Binh Thuan and Thua Thien – Hue have exceeded the average rate.

In terms of e-IDcard issuance, by April 27, local police nationwide received 34 million applications (reaching 67.8% of the target of 50 million e-ID cards issued by July 2021).

At the conference, leaders of the local police pointed out difficulties and problems while exchanging experiences and effective approaches in implementing the two projects.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc emphasized that the local police forces should make more efforts and raise their sense of responsibility and creativity in implementing the projects.

He requested relevant agencies under the MPS to further assist local police forces in realizing the projects. They should also send working delegations to localities to guide and help local police force overcome difficulties in fulfilling their tasks.

The Deputy Minister also asked the local police forces to attach great importance to ensuring local security and social order and safeguarding the election of deputies to the 15th National Assembly and People’s Councils for the 2021-2026 tenure.
