MPS seeks ways to improve efficiency of fugitive pursuit

The Steering Committee for Fugitive Pursuit under the Ministry of Public Security (Steering Committee 327) held a meeting in September to review the pursuit of wanted fugitives over the past time as well as discuss approaches to improve the efficiency of fugitive pursuit in the coming time.

Senior Lieutenant General Le Quy Vuong, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of Public Security and Head of Steering Committee 327, chaired the meeting.

Public security units and agencies nationwide, in coordination with the People’s Procuracies and People’s Courts at all levels, have sent letters to the families of wanted fugitives calling on them to surrender to the authorities.

As a result, 1,206 wanted fugitives, accounting for nearly 1/3 of the total wanted criminals in the first eight months of 2020, have turned themselves in.

Additionally, the public security units and agencies have arrested many wanted criminals who had changed their identity features, used other people's ID cards, or their ID cards based on fake information.

To conclude the meeting, Deputy Minister Le Quy Vuong affirmed that the fugitive pursuit work of the Public Security Forces over the past time satisfied both legal and professional requirements, while avoiding injustice and wrongdoings, contributing to solving thousands of criminal cases. It also contributed to preventing and curbing the number of crimes over the past years.

Deputy Minister Le Quy Vuong asked the public security agencies and local police units to enhance the efficiency of fugitive pursuit and arrest while mobilizing them to surrender themselves to the authorities.

The Standing Steering Committee 327 was asked to issue coordination regulations and assign tasks to its members in the time to come.

Meanwhile, the MPS’s Office and the Criminal Investigation Agency’s Office should draft legal documents on criminal pursuit in line with the current laws as well as expand coordination with the INTERPOL Office in Vietnam to pursue and arrest wanted runaways.
