Public security agencies and units asked to take drastic measures against COVID-19

Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Son, Deputy Minister of Public Security and Head of the Steering Committee for Disease Prevention and Control under the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) on June 1 chaired an online meeting with relevant public security agencies and units on prevention and control of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Representatives from the police departments of Bac Ninh, Bac Giang, Bac Lieu, Long An, Tay Ninh and Ho Chi Minh City participated in the event via videoconferencing.

According to the reports at the meeting, by 18:00 on May 31, Vietnam had recorded4,215 COVID-19 community infection cases in 34 provinces and cities across the country.

Amidst the complicated development of the fourth COVID-19 wave, the MPS’s Steering Committee for Epidemic Prevention and Control asked all public security agencies and units to take drastic measures to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the Public Security Forces.

So far, the Department of Health under the MPS has supplied all public security agencies and units with personal protective equipment and disinfectant chemicals for pandemic prevention and control. Hospital 19/8, Hospital of Traditional Medicines, the Mobile Police Command and the People's Police Academy under the MPS have also sent their officers, doctors, nurses and cadets to COVID-19 epicenters to assist local fight against the disease.

The local police forces have been asked to strictly follow the regulations on COVID-19 prevention and control while supporting local authorities in tracking people having close contact with COVID-19 patients, deploying forces protect security and order in quarantine zones and field hospitals, and handling the spread of false information and fake information related to COVID-19 on the internet.

Addressing the event, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Son praised the efforts of the public security agencies and units in COVID-19 prevention and control. As the pandemic situation may continue to see complicated developments, he asked the Public Security Forces to raise their sense of responsibility and take more drastic measures against the pandemic.

In particular, the police departments of COVID-hit provinces and cities should participate actively in fighting the pandemic while strictly handling violations against the COVID-19 prevention and control regulations in their localities.
