The journey of a hard-working female scout

PSNews - Ninh can't help burst into tears while reading her son's letter full of his confidence sent to class head-master at the end of the academic year. When others wish to be doctor and engineers, he only wishes to live with his mom more often. The wish seems to be so simple but difficult for a child of a policewoman on reconnaissance.

Lieutenant Colonel Dang Thai Ninh, a policewoman of Team.4, the Northwest Security Department, the General Department of Security, the Ministry of Public Security. As a scout, sheoften has long business trips tomountainous areas, "to eat, to live, to work and to speak ethnic minority languages,"and during such trips, she meets quite a few difficulties and hardships, including those in communications and daily life activities.

Talking to her, you would feel the specialenergy inside this woman, and her huge passion for work. She is always optimistic even facing difficulties as she was inspired and refueled by the beauty of nature, the Northwestern people and the success from her own career.

At the time when BacKan and Thai Nguyen became two provinces, a young and ambitious student named Dang Thai Ninh graduated from a Public Security school. Thanks to assistance and support from her senior colleagues, she quickly got used to the work as a female scout.

She actively participated in Youth Union activities on one hand, and she conducted reconnaissance on the other hand. She and her colleagues more than once had to spend the whole night tracing economic or white-color criminals on the run.

After more than 10 years working at the BacKan Provincial Police, she moved to the Northwest Security Department in Yen Bai in 2008 when it had been formed for two years. The department is responsible for the 14 Northwestern provinces with many difficulties.

To come to ethnic minorities, she and her colleagues have to go through forests and cross streams, and when they reach the locality, they have to live with local people. They also have to organize their lives and work, and follow local people’s custom and practice.

Her unit is in charges of 6 provinces, namely Cao Bang, BacKan, Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang, Ha Giang and Lang Son so such business are a big challenge for not only her but also young men.

She confided: Mountainous people are honest but easy to be used by bad elements. If you want to win local people’s hearts and minds, you have to learn their customs and traditions. Therefore, when the Provincial Commission for Mass Mobilization opened H'Mong language classes, she voluntarily applied for them. Since she could speak the "internal language", her work became much easier.

She told us her story, once time when travelling to an ethnic minority village, her motorbike was broken down. She had to walk for 10 km and still couldn't find anyone to help. Another story was told, when she was in Kha Lu, Ha Quang (Cao Bang), a place known for lack of water, male scouts in the team come to this area during the dry season and they could not shower for days.

Referring to her natural duties as a wife and a mother, Lieutenant Colonel Dang Thai Ninh told us a touching story  demonstrating the difficulties of Northwest Security Department officers. The story said, there was a Junior Lieutenant of ethnic minority, born in Muong La (Son La). His wife had to give birth to their first child by her own while bearing their second child at home with the help of her mother.

The above stories shows that the working and living environment for Northwest Security Department officersis very hard. In such conditions, raising and caring for a child is considered as a real challenge for them.
