Vietnam, Japan beef up cooperation on justice

PSNews – Senior Lieutenant General Le Quy Vuong, Deputy Minister of Public Security on last Friday received Japanese Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Justice Mr. Takashi Yamashita.

At the reception, Deputy Minister Le Quy Vuong stated that Vietnam highly appreciated the Japanese Ministry of Justice’s handling of Vietnamese offenders in Japan in accordance with local laws without affecting the relations of the two countries.

In Vietnam, functional agencies are speeding up the negotiation processes for the signing of an agreement on criminal mutual legal assistance, and agreement on transfer of sentenced persons between Vietnam and Japan, creating a legal corridor for bilateral cooperation between the two sides in preventing and fighting Vietnamese offenders in Japan.

Deputy Minister Le Quy Vuong affirmed that the negotiation of agreement on transfer of sentenced persons is necessary as it reflects humane policy and civic responsibility, as well as contribute to promoting the extensive strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia, especially in the context of the two countries celebrating 45 years of their diplomatic relations.

The Deputy Minister also stressed that the relationship between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security (MPS) and Japanese Law enforcement agencies have achieved many positive results over the years. Especially, through the annual Vietnam-Japan Deputy Ministerial Security Dialogue, the Vietnamese MPS and the Japanese National Police Agency have successfully implemented several cooperation contents such as experience exchange; cooperation in science-technology and personnel training; cooperation in preventing and fighting against transnational crimes, drug related crime, hi-tech crime and terrorism; cooperation in ensuring safety and security for visits of high-ranking delegations of one country visiting the other and ensuring the safety and security for the agencies, businesses and citizens of one country living, studying and working in the other country.

Deputy Ministry Le Quy Vuong hoped that, in the coming time, the Japanese Ministry of Justice would continue to expand cooperation and experience exchange in criminal investigation, immigration management, and high-ranking delegation exchanges, in order to enhance mutual trust between the two sides.

Mr. Yamashita Takashi thanked Deputy Minister Le Quy Vuong for his reception and exchanged with the host issues of mutual interests. He affirmed that the two sides are enjoying a good relationship, and relevant units also coordinate closely in supervising and managing companies and consultancy agencies specializing in overseas study and labour export.

He stressed that, the Japanese Ministry of Justice will continue to work closely with Vietnamese law enforcement agencies, especially the Vietnamese MPS, in handling related issues to ensure the legitimate rights of citizens and organizations of the two countries.
