Vietnam, Japan to strengthen ties on security cooperation

PSNews - Senior Lieutenant General To Lam, Minister of Public Security of Vietnam, and Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Kunio Umeda had a meeting on April 7th in Hanoi.

Minister To Lam stated that the Vietnam-Japan relationship in general and cooperation between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and Japanese law enforcement agencies in particular have developed strongly and comprehensively in many fields.

Minister To Lam stressed that in the coming time, the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam will increase cooperation activities between the two sides in preventing and fighting crime, ensuring social order and safety and national security in each country to create a stable environment for socio-economic development.

The Vietnamese Public Security Minister also wished Japan to support the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security in accessing modern and advanced equipment for cyber and information security; and in training Vietnamese cyber and information security specialists and cyber criminal police force.

In addition, the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam will strengthen coordination with the National Police of Japan to ensure security for APEC 2017 held in Vietnam, Olympic Tokyo 2020, especially the upcoming visit of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc to Japan in June 2017 and Primie Minister Shinzo Abe's visit to Vietnam during the APEC Summit 2017.

Besides, the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security will continue discussing with Japan issues relating to a bilateral agreement on extradition of criminal transfer in the coming time, in order to step up the cooperation between the two sides.

Japanese Ambassador Kunio Umeda thanked Minister To Lam for the reception. He also sent his thanks to the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam for the close cooperation with the Japanese relevant agencies and Japan Embassy in Vietnam in ensuring security for the visit of Japan’s Emperor and Empress to Vietnam in early 2017.

Ambassador Umeda affirmed that he will do his best to contribute to deepening bilateral relations and friendship between the two countries and between Japanese law enforcement agencies and the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security.
