Vietnam, Pakistan beef up cooperation on security

PSNews - Senior Lieutenant General To Lam, Minister of Public Security on December 6 received a delegation of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan led by Mr. Mian Muhammad Jamil Afaqi, Head of the Training Department of the Institute of Public Policy,  Beaconhouse National University (BNU), Pakistan, during its visit to Vietnam.

At the reception, Minister To Lam enhanced that, in recently years, the friendly relations between Vietnam and Pakistan have constantly been strengthened in political, diplomatic, economic-commercial and cultural fields.

On the basis of the increased political ties between Vietnam and Pakistan, Minister To Lam hoped that, in the coming time, the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and the relevant Pakistani agencies in general and the BNU in particular will continue to expand cooperation in all fields, especially in the fields of politics, security and economics.

In terms of security, Minister Lam suggested the two sides accelerate the negotiation process to sign soon a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in preventing and fighting crimes, between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and the Pakistani Ministry of Interior.

In addition, in the coming time, the two sides should also improve the legal framework to expand bilateral cooperation in preventing and fighting crimes; enhance experience sharing in the law enforcement, information exchange, and coordination in fighting transnational crime, drug-related crime, terrorism, high-tech crime and international economic crime.

The two sides should also continue to maintain and promote the effectiveness of the signed bilateral cooperation mechanisms, negotiate new agreements and create favorable legal corridors for bilateral cooperation in the reality.

For his part, Mr. Mian Muhammad Jamil Afaqi thanked Minister To Lam for the reception. He highly appreciated the achievements of the country and the Ministry of Public Security over the past time.

Mr. Mian Muhammad Jamil Afaqi also affirmed that he would do his best to contribute to boosting traditional friendship between the two countries and cooperation between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and Pakistani relevant agencies.
