The Central Public Security Party Committee and the Ministry of Public Security held a special political-artistic gala titled “DNA – Reconnecting the Lifeline,” on the evening of June 30, in Hanoi.
The event highlighted the determination of the Party, State as well as the People’s Public Security Forces (PPSF) to accelerate the search, recovery and identification of fallen soldiers' remains under the "500 Days and Nights" Campaign (March 15, 2026 – July 27, 2027). The program was broadcast live on ANTV.
The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Public Security Senior Lieutenant General Le Quoc Hung, Deputy Director of the VPA General Department of Politics Senior Lieutenant General Le Quang Minh, representatives of central ministries, and relatives of fallen soldiers.
In his address, Deputy Minister Le Quoc Hung emphasized that identifying fallen soldiers' remains is a critical political task of profound historical and humanitarian significance. Driven by "A Command from the Heart," the campaign serves as a major milestone leading up to the 80th anniversary of Wounded and Martyrs' Day (July 27, 2027).
Deeply grasping the directive of General Secretary and President To Lam:“If we do not focus drastically on resolving this in the coming years, there will be no time or conditions left to fully fulfill this responsibility,” the Ministry of Public Security has directed the entire PPSF to race against time to collect, analyze, and integrate DNA biological samples of unidentified martyrs' relatives into the National Population Database.
To date, the campaign has achieved the following metrics: 758,188 fallen soldiers' profiles updated (including 393,387 with identified burial sites); 384,349 maternal-line relatives registered for the DNA pool; 134,802 DNA samples collected and stored; 53,036 samples analyzed and integrated into the National Identity Database; 25 fallen soldiers successfully identified through DNA matching.
The Ministry of Public Security identified the final six months of 2026 as a "golden period" for the campaign. The Ministry has launched a nationwide peak campaign aiming to collect DNA samples from 70% of eligible relatives by July 25, 2026, and reach 100% by the end of the year.
Deputy Minister Le Quoc Hung called for close coordination among ministries, local authorities, and the public to ensure the campaign is executed with the highest urgency, while directing public security media to actively counter distorted allegations by hostile and reactionary forces regarding the State's policies for meritorious individuals.
The gala concluded with delegates signing a formal commitment to fulfill the objectives of the "500 Days and Nights" Campaign.
