MPS seeks to cooperate with Austrian partners

A high-ranking delegation of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam led by Deputy Minister of Public Security Senior Lieutenant General Le Quoc Hung paid a working trip to the Republic of Austria to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the fields of security, police, crime prevention and control, digital technology and residence management.

In Vienna, Deputy Minister Le Quoc Hung had talks with Director General for Migration and International Affairs of the Austrian Federal Ministry of the Interior Peter Webinger to review the bilateral cooperation and discuss future directions to strengthen the partnership.

Both sides agreed that the relationship between the Vietnam’s MPS and the Austrian Ministry of the Interior has developed positively and substantively since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1972.

During the working session, the Austrian side shared with the Vietnamese delegation its experience in migration management, particularly in applying digital technology to population management and the delivery of public services.

Expressing his impression on Austria’s notable achievements, Deputy Minister Le Quoc Hung proposed that the two sides accelerate the negotiation and signing of an agreement on cooperation in crime prevention and control, as well as other agreements on extradition and transfer of sentenced persons.

He also suggested expanding cooperation in training and capacity building for Vietnamese public security officers in key areas such as cybersecurity, hi-tech crime prevention, counterterrorism, anti–money laundering and migration management.

At the working session with AIT, the two sides exchanged views on technological solutions to support security protection, residence management and law enforcement operations.

The Vietnamese delegation toured AIT’s quantum encryption laboratory, which develops cutting-edge quantum communication technologies to apply to governmental and law enforcement agencies.

For their part, AIT leaders affirmed their willingness to cooperate with Vietnam’s MPS in technology transfer, scientific research and training.

At the Austrian State Printing House (OSD) — the sole facility authorized to produce secure documents for the Austrian government, Deputy Minister Le Quoc Hung discussed with OSD leaders on secure printing, identity document management and digitalization solutions.

OSD currently employs around 220 personnel and produces passports, ID cards, visas, driver’s licenses, and other high-security documents in compliance with the ISO, ICAO and EU standards.

The OSD leadership also expressed interest in cooperating with the MPS in digital transformation and secure printing technologies.

During the visit to Austria, Deputy Minister Le Quoc Hung visited the Embassy of Vietnam in Austria and met with representatives of the Vietnamese community living and working in the country.
